Setting the Standard

Leadership is work. Maintaining your in-service and ready status is work. Determining what right looks like is work. Setting and maintaining the standard are work. In the fire service, engaging in this work is nonnegotiable. This book is a guide for not only strengthening yourself and your team but also for building a culture aimed at accomplishing the mission. This book was written by real firefighters who have been at the tip of the spear, who understand the pressure of the battle in the trenches and the heart and guts that must be part of every effort in the environment in which we operate. For heart and guts to be shown on the fireground, they must first be shown on the training ground and in the firehouse. It doesn’t work any other way. No firefighter goes to work thinking about being hurt or killed.
