In 1971, Cynthia Gallaher met Ted Kaczynski at the University of Illinois at Chicago. This hybrid memoir of vignettes, poems, prose, news items, and quotes from Industrial Society and Its Future—Kaczynski's manifesto—is based on Gallaher's interactions with Kaczynski during the months when he was making plans for his move to Montana, and seemingly his first steps toward becoming the Unabomber.
