Description

This book introduces the African Psychology conceptual framework of Half-Connecting Theory (HCT), which traces both the African and European worldviews back to their "radical beginnings" in the human subconscious. The book challenges the assumption that these worldviews are wholly oppositional, arguing instead that they share a common source and operate as interlocking forces shaping human behavior, cultural artifacts, and mental health. HCT uses findings from African ethnographies (including the author's own), findings from neuroscience and quantum physics, and critical reviews of psychoanalysis, phenomenology, communication studies, and African Psychology to develop tools for looking past the appearances of objects, including things people may consciously use and value, to make plain this deep essence. By escorting African Psychology from the esoteric to the mundane, HCT promises to make the revolutionary principles of African Psychology mainstream and urgent to scholars and professionals looking to restore humanity to holistic health at individual and social levels. Ultimately, the work contributes to African Psychology's mission to develop a liberatory science of being, offering tools to restore holistic health and connectedness in a fragmented modern world.
