The Red Detachment of Women

Writers talk about literature on the Singapore River. Distinct and displaced pasts meet. Individual encounters with a revolutionary ballet carry a generation's lost youth and unspoken tragedy. Laureate of innumerable literary prizes, Jiang Yun leaves no reader indifferent. Annelise Finegan teaches at NYU. Her translations have been nominated for the International Booker Prize and won the Best Translated Book Award. Mingyuan Hu is an historian; she translates French, English and Chinese literature.
