We're very excited to host our first event at Backstory in partnership with The Guardian.
Since The Guardian Long Read launched a decade ago it has become one of the very few homes in the British press for in-depth, narrative journalism of the kind more usually associated with American publications like The New Yorker.
It has published incredible original reporting by some of Tom's favourite writers like Sophie Elmhirst -- author of Maurice and Maralyn, whose long read on the king of condoms is a must-read -- Tom Lamont, Ed Caesar and Sam Knight. Each piece can take months of painstaking reporting and editing.
Now the paper is launching a regular magazine - The Guardian Long Read - to publish some of the very best of its long reads. And they're holding the launch at Backstory.
Come along for an evening chaired by David Wolf, editor of The Guardian Long Read, with readings by writers Stephen Buranyi and Imogen West-Knights.
About the long read:
From politics to philosophy, personal stories to true crime, discover a selection of the Guardian’s finest longform journalism, in one beautiful edition. In this issue, you’ll find pieces on how MrBeast became the world’s biggest YouTube star, how Emmanuel Macron deals with Donald Trump, and shocking revelations at the British Museum. Plus: what’s behind our rampant steroid use?
Tickets Available:
Ticket only - £15 (This ticket does not include a copy of the magazine. You can decide to buy a copy on the night, but this will be charged in addition, at the full price of the magazine.)
Ticket & magazine (RRP £12.99) - £20 (To collect on the night.)
