Imagining, remembering: two ways of drawing closer to the reality we are, and which sustains us, through the language of poetry. Or, perhaps a single way, because poetry, crossing through myths and dreams, brings together past and future in the present of writing. This is the path taken by these Etats de la memoire (States of Memory), twenty-five poems of which appear here, chosen from the six sections of the French edition ("Le nom et la mort"; "Eclats d'un lieu ancien"; "La statue noire"; "Voyage"; "La lumiere du vide"; "Couleur de l'ame") and translated by John Naughton and Anthony Rudolf with the collaboration of the author. Imaginer, se souvenir : deux facons de s'approcher du reel que nous sommes, et qui nous contient, par le langage de la poesie. Ou une seule, peut-etre, parce que la poesie, traversant mythes et reves, unifie le passe et l'avenir dans le present de l'ecriture.
