Born as Manikarnika in Varanasi, Rani Lakshmi Bai was never meant for an ordinary life. At a time when girls were rarely taught to fight, she trained in combat, mallakhambha and courage. From the grounds of Bithoor to the throne of Jhansi, she rose-a queen who refused to bow, to fate or to the British. When the British Empire set its sights on Jhansi, she stood by her people. She chose war. What followed was not merely a battle for a kingdom, but a fight for dignity, freedom and honour. Leading from the front, Lakshmi Bai turned Jhansi into a blazing symbol of resistance during the uprising of 1857.
