Description
Living with an eating disorder can be a lonely, exhausting, and distressing experience both for the suffer and for those close to them. The aim of this book is to supercharge the process of recovery by combining the strengths of a group/collaborative approach, by including the perspective of those with lived experience. The group approach is cost effective and represents an invaluable addition to any eating disorder service. In this workbook, the authors explain how to integrate the expertise and validity of the recovery approach with the evidence-based cognitive interpersonal model. It adopts a group approach to facilitate reflection, preparation and planning for the experimental steps towards change. Both patient and carers can quickly develop self-reflective skills in order to role model confidence, compassion and courage to take risks, and on how to experiment with changing their own behaviour. This manual provides a library of recovery narratives (with videos available online) and a framework for running the groups that can be facilitated by individuals without extensive clinical experience but who are willing and able to guide change.
