{"product_id":"education-to-work-transition","title":"Education-to-Work Transition","description":"Developing graduates’ professional readiness in response to growing demands of globalisation and technological developments has been considered one of the central missions of Higher Education Institutions. Given the changing demands of professional translation, translators’ work status and their client types, translator training needs to take into account both global and local work requirements to equip graduates for a glocalised market.   Education-to-Work Transition explores the alignment between the competences required by professional translators and those taught in university translation programs in Australia and Vietnam. Thu Thi Quy Do investigates the essential competences identified by professionals, trainers, and students, and compares these with the training components offered in universities. Chapters highlights the competences that graduates lack, given the focus of pedagogical practices in the translator programs. These include both specific competences such as the ability to understand briefs and translate a text to generic competences, such as the ability to work collaboratively with others and how to deal with business requirements, including quotes and invoices.   Responding to a critical gap in the current literature by examining multiple perspectives of stakeholders in translation pedagogy and translation practice, Do analyses what is required in professional translation work and what is contemporarily trained at university for a smooth transition from education to the workforce, analysing how well these programs prepare students to meet the professional requirements of the translation industry. The book identifies a shared global competence core across the two research contexts, particularly in strategic workplace competence and technological competence, while recognising context-specific professional requirements. It proposes a staged competence-development curriculum framework and competence-oriented assessment rubric to support graduate preparedness in increasingly globalised, technology-mediated, and evolving professional translation environments.","brand":"Gardners","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":57680309911925,"sku":"9781837088010","price":80.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"url":"https:\/\/backstory.london\/products\/education-to-work-transition","provider":"Backstory","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
